PSYCHOTHERAPIST, Life Coach, Consultant, Educator, Mother, Yogini and Murderino
I’ve worked as a psychotherapist, administrator, mentor and educator since 1990.
In 2007, I decided to broaden my professional scope to include Life Coaching. Life Coaching is distinct from counseling in that it is not a “healing” process; it is a “getting unstuck” process.
Also, in 2007, I discovered the work of Dr. Harvey Karp and began using his techniques for calming and soothing newborn infants with my own newborn son — to great success! In 2010, I became a Certified Happiest Baby Educator.
When my son started school, I became deeply involved in the Simplicity Parenting movement, which addresses the need for less — less chaos, less clutter, less pressure — in the lives of our children.
My independent psychotherapy and consulting practice is located in Tucker, Georgia. I also offer remote services via a HIPAA-compliant video platform.
Fees, Insurance and Sessions
It’s not complicated. I’m an interactive therapist. I will listen to your story, ask questions, challenge you and offer intuitive feedback to enable you to heal.
I operate under the belief that if you have made it into my office (even through a video call), you must have considerable strengths. You might also have a diagnosis or two. No problem: Your strengths are probably greater than whatever ails you.
I strive to partner with you to get to the core of the problem and heal the source of your emotional pain.
I work with you to connect your heart and your head, to clarify your dreams and to launch you into action to realize them.
In coaching, we work together to determine what you really want; to develop insight into what is holding you back; and to develop a workable action plan for getting you there.
I will hold you accountable for what you say you want to do. Procrastination and self-sabotage are not options.
Specialty areas include:
Newborns
For parents of newborns, I highly recommend the book, “The Happiest Baby on the Block”, by Harvey Karp, M.D. You can also purchase a DVD or stream/download a video featuring Dr. Karp’s techniques. (read more about The Happiest Baby on the Block)
Toddlers
For parents of toddlers, I recommend Dr. Karp’s The Happiest Toddler on the Block in book or video form. As with Happiest Baby, Dr. Karp’s techniques for managing toddlers are life changing.
Think: Frustration Prevention! If you’d like extra support, contact me.
Children
Once a child is old enough to hold and stare into a Smart Phone, the War on Childhood has begun.
When my son was a toddler, I heard a lecture given by Kim John Payne, founder of the Simplicity Parenting movement. That lecture changed everything. (Read more about Simplicity Parenting)
Before COVID-19, insurance companies would NOT cover sessions unless they were in person. Once the pandemic hit, they re-examined this policy and now VIDEO and TELEPHONIC sessions ARE covered. This might depend upon your particular policy, though, so it’s a good idea to check your “telehealth” coverage before scheduling.
I provide HIPAA-compliant video sessions on the doxy.me platform. Here’s how it works: We schedule a session. The day before the session, I send you an invitation with a link. At the appointed time, you click on the link. Once on the site, you type your name and this will cause you to enter the virtual waiting room. The site alerts me that you’re there and I click to start your session.
In-person sessions are wonderful! When the CDC indicates that it is safe to meet in person in a small office, I will again offer services in-person.
I accept the following insurance as an in-network provider and will take care of filing claims with them:
For other insurance coverage, you, the client, are responsible for payment of my full fee. Once payment is rendered, I will issue you a receipt. You then submit the receipt with a claim for reimbursement to your insurance company. Typically, an insurance company will pay for only a portion of the fee when a provider is out-of-network.
Insurance can be used ONLY for psychotherapy services. It does not cover coaching or consultations. This is because insurance companies require proof of the “medical necessity” of treatment. They also demand a diagnosis.
Office Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET.
That said, some extended EARLY MORNING and EVENING hours are also available. I will work with you to ensure that your appointment time fits your needs. I do not work on weekends.
In the event of an emergency, please call 9-1-1 and keep yourself safe. Once the emergency has been managed, you can contact me and let me know what has been going on with you. Please do not depend on reaching me in order to keep yourself or others safe. That is what emergency services are for.
Length of Sessions: Generally, psychotherapy sessions are 60 minutes long. Life Coaching sessions can run from 30 to 60 minutes. Parenting consultations vary from 30 minutes to two hours.
Money: I keep things simple and flexible. In-person clients may pay at the time of services or opt to be invoiced via Square at the end of the month for charges incurred that month. I accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express — and, of course, checks and cash.
Clients and insurance companies pay in accordance with the length of the session. Therapy (if you’re NOT using insurance), coaching and consultative services are rendered at an hourly rate of $100, prorated at 15-minute intervals. For example:
I do allow for a certain percentage of my clients to pay a REDUCED FEE. If you need to see a therapist, coach or parenting consultant for a reduced fee, please let me know. If I can’t accommodate you, I might be able to help you find someone who can.
